Amelia Serrano

Degree in Marine Science (UVigo, 2010), Master’s in economics and management of aquaculture and fisheries (UVigo, 2010). Amelia is a multidisciplinary Scientist with experience in labs, production project management and on-board oceangoing research vessels. She is currently supporting our ongoing projects both from an administrative and practical perspective. Her interest is focused on project management, synthetic chemistry and sustainability.

María Ángeles Domínguez

B.Sc. in Chemical Sciences (USC,1986) and PhD (UVigo, 1992). In 1991, I joined the Advanced Separation Processes research group (FEQx) in the Department of Chemical Engineering (UVigo) as an assistant professor. I have participated in more than 20 research projects, as PI in 10 of them. I have published over 140 papers and coordinated FEQx group for 16 years (2006–2022). My research focuses on extracting compounds from agricultural waste and recovering textiles/dyes for industrial reuse.

Begoña González

Begoña González

PhD in Chemical Engineering (UVigo, 2005), B.Sc. in Chemistry (UVigo, 2000). She has undertaken research stays at the University of Rio de Janeiro and Universidade do Porto, authored 56 scientific publications and has supervised two PhD theses, and led 8 competitive research projects with national and regional funding. Her research targets physical properties and phase equilibria to develop greener separation agents as alternatives to conventional solvents.

Pablo B. Sánchez

Pablo B. Sánchez

Chemical Engineer (USC) and PhD (UVigo, 2017) on ionic liquids, with part of his work at Université Blaise Pascal. He conducted postdoctoral research at Tokyo Tech, ENS-Lyon, and MIT before returning to UVigo, where he has been a Ramón y Cajal fellow since 2022. His research sits at the intersection of polymer chemistry, fluid mechanics, and engineering, to transform biopolymers into functional materials. He enjoys teaching and working with curious minds. Cofounder of the spin-off SpectrumGrid.

Carlos V. Rico

Carlos V. Rico

Carlos holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry (UVigo, 2022) and a M.Sc. in Research in Chemistry Research and Industrial Chemistry (UVigo, 2023). He is a PhD candidate in the FEQx lab group (Chemical Engineering Department, UVigo), focusing on valorisation of crustacean processing waste through active food packaging, with interest in polymer science and material innovation. He also collaborates on industry projects, and complements his scientific activity by an interest in computer-assisted solutions.

Elena Gómez
Elena Gómez

Elena Gómez

B.Sc. in Chemistry (UVigo, 2001) and PhD in Chemical Engineering (UVigo, 2008), began her postdoctoral work at FEUP (2009), and later at UVigo (Ángeles Alvariño Program, 2011), on ionic liquids as separation agents. In 2016, she was selected for Portugal’s FCT Investigator Programme, researching biomolecule recovery with green solvents. Since 2022, at UVigo, she works as postdoctoral researcher, leading a new research line on grape pomace valorisation for pharma, cosmetic, and food uses.

Iván Blanco

Degree in Biology (2019), Master’s degree in Advanced Biotechnology (2021). Currently, he is a PhD candidate and researcher in the FEQx lab, part of the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Vigo. His research focuses on exploring biopolymeric sources to develop printable materials for textile applications, combining biotechnology and engineering to create sustainable and innovative solutions.

Iván Montenegro
Iván Montenegro

Iván Montenegro

PhD candidate and researcher in the FEQx lab group (Chemical Engineering Department, UVigo). B.Sc. in Energy Engineering (UVigo, 2022) and MSc in Energy Conversion Systems and Technologies (URV, 2023). His early research covered nanofluids for geothermal applications, thermodynamic modelling, and refrigeration systems. Currently, he focuses on circular economy via food waste recovery, extracting bioactive compounds for cosmetic and pharmaceutical use.

Javier Páez
Javier Páez

Javier Páez

Graduated in Chemistry from the University of Vigo (2018) and got a Master’s degree in Chemical Research and Industrial Chemistry (2019). He is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Vigo. His research work is centered on the design and development of spinning systems intended for the regeneration and in-situ monitoring of biopolymers. Within this framework, he was hosted in the Aalto University to implement of an online monitoring system.

Lorena Villar

Lorena Villar

PhD (UVigo, 2024), B.Sc. in Chemistry (UVigo, 2016). Lorena co-developed a patent of a paper-based device for in situ arsenic determination. She has carried out a PhD in the Department of Chemical Engineering focused on the recycling of cellulose-based textiles, including a stay at Aalto University (Finland). Her dissertation, Chemical processing of textile waste based on natural and synthetic fibers was recognized with Cum Laude distinction. Currently, she is a FEQx researcher on biopolymer materials.

Lucía F. Ventoso

Graduated in Chemistry from the University of Vigo (2021) and completed a Master’s in Clinical Trials at the University of Nebrija (2022). With two years of experience in the industrial sector, she is currently finalising a Master’s in Research in Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry at the University of Vigo, where her final project at the FEQx lab focuses on incorporating biopolymers derived from industrial sources into polymeric matrices to enhance their functionality.

Marta Pita

Marta Pita

Graduated in Chemistry at the University of Vigo in 2019 and with a Master’s degree in Chemical Research and Industrial Chemistry from the same institution in 2020. After receiving funding from the Early Stage Researchers Program at the Biomedical Research Center (CINBIO), she obtained a predoctoral grant from the Xunta de Galicia. Her research focuses on the field of biopolymers, particularly developing functional materials based on proteins and carbohydrates.

Óscar Martínez

PhD candidate in the FEQx Lab research group (Chemical Engineering, UVigo), focusing on environmental chemical engineering applied to the textile sector. With a B.Sc. in Chemistry and M.Sc. in Theoretical Chemistry (Oviedo), he addresses circular solutions for sustainability in the textile industry, including the development of new solvents for extracting dyes from textile wastewaters and cotton decolorization.
